My new PC

Software employing multithreading--putting multiple processor cores to work simultaneously--is becoming increasingly plentiful. In the next year, enjoying the latest games will be impossible without multicore processors. So I've joined the multicore revolution by acquiring a new PC with an Intel quad-core 2.4 GHz processor.

Of course,...

A place to call home

My grandparents have just left after spending the past three days of Memorial Day weekend with me, and my Internet is down for the second time since Saturday, so now--10:07 PM--seems a good time to craft a blog entry. I am writing this longhand for eventual transcription onto my blog.

As I announced earlier this month, I have gotten a full-time...

The Bodies

Icon 1 Comments
I ride the Washington, D.C., Metro to and from work every day. Lately, in the Metro Center station near the Cato Institute, I've been seeing lots of advertisements for an exhibition in Virginia called The Bodies. This exhibition must have been in New York City when I visited, because I glimpsed advertisements for it there, too.

The Bodies...

A new word for English: earworm

I am inserting the word "earworm," from German vernacular, into the English language.

What is an "earworm"?

Go forth and spread this wonderous new word, so Merriam-Webster's must recognize it in a few years. Image reduced in size

A very odd dream

I experienced quite a strange dream last night: I was resting in the living room of the house wherein I lived until high school, and as I looked up at the ceiling, a slimy black gecko was walking around up there, its sticky feet preventing it from falling down on me.

From global warming with love

The climate in the United States has acted freakishly this winter. Although winter storms have pummeled some regions of the country--such as my home region of St. Louis while I was at university in Washington, D.C., and Colorado right now--drastically warm temperatures have characterized the season. For much of December in D.C., the mercury...

Almost done with college

Icon Leave Comment
Four years of effort at George Washington University are about to pay off: I will be graduating from college next month, with a major in political science and a minor in journalism. I eagerly anticipate heading off into the world (or going a few blocks from where I am now) to apply what I've read in books, heard in lectures, and discussed in...

Cult of the Presidency

Personality Type

You are a Judge!(Dominant Introverted Concrete Thinker)Posted Image You are a JUDGE (DICT). Your affinity for facts and analytical approach to life help you solve complex problems and make tough decisions that others cannot. But don't think that you don't act irrationally a lot of the time. You jump into arguments and hold grudges like crazy. You could probably use some love. While some may see you as a bit overbearing and arrogant, your friends know that you are a trustworthy person with depth and a strong sense of righteousness. Although you are introverted and somewhat reserved, you have a forceful personality that your friends appreciate and your enemies fear. God help them. God help all of us.(From the Spark Personality Test.)
