What songs are capturing your attention at the moment?

The song that's captivated me most lately is "Karma" by Alicia Keys. It has a groovy beat that sounds a unique chord amongst all the other songs out there. I heard a small snippet of it at the recent MTV Video Music Awards, and I had to buy The Diary of Alicia Keys the next day. :)

I'm listening to songs from The Ultimate Collection by Michael Jackson. Say whatever you will about Jackson's personal life, but he's an amazing singer and performer.

Rammstein - Mein Teil

Think for yourself.
Question authority.
Throughout human history, as our species has faced the frightening, terrorizing fact that we do not know who we are, or where we are going in this ocean of chaos; it has been the authorities- the political, the religious, the educational authorities- who attempt to comfort us by giving us order, rules, regulations. Informing, forming in our minds their view of reality. To think for yourself you must question authority and learn how to put yourself in a state of vulnerable, open-mindedness; chaotic, confused, vulnerability to inform yourself.
Think for yourself.
Question authority.

Rammstein - Mein Teil

ROFL! That's a hilarious title ... rather ambigous. I didn't know that one. Is it new?

I'm listening to the three albums of "Disturbed" right now, which a friend has recommended me, and I like them so far.

But I'm not determined on listening to rock/new metal, last week, some of Ludwig van Beethoven's symphonies had garnered my attention. I'm rather open for different genres ... I just don't like hiphop so much, and German folk.

Big Rock Candy Mountains
Harry Mcclintock
(O Brother, Where Art Thou?)

I just like the lyrics *shrugs*

One evening as the sun went down
And the jungle fires were burning,
Down the track came a hobo hiking,
And he said, "Boys, I'm not turning
I'm headed for a land that's far away
Besides the crystal fountains
So come with me, we'll go and see
The Big Rock Candy Mountains

In the Big Rock Candy Mountains,
There's a land that's fair and bright,
Where the handouts grow on bushes
And you sleep out every night.
Where the boxcars all are empty
And the sun shines every day
And the birds and the bees
And the cigarette trees
The lemonade springs
Where the bluebird sings
In the Big Rock Candy Mountains.

In the Big Rock Candy Mountains
All the cops have wooden legs
And the bulldogs all have rubber teeth
And the hens lay soft-boiled eggs
The farmers' trees are full of fruit
And the barns are full of hay
Oh I'm bound to go
Where there ain't no snow
Where the rain don't fall
The winds don't blow
In the Big Rock Candy Mountains.

In the Big Rock Candy Mountains
You never change your socks
And the little streams of alcohol
Come trickling down the rocks
The brakemen have to tip their hats
And the railway bulls are blind
There's a lake of stew
And of whiskey too
You can paddle all around it
In a big canoe
In the Big Rock Candy Mountains

In the Big Rock Candy Mountains,
The jails are made of tin.
And you can walk right out again,
As soon as you are in.
There ain't no short-handled shovels,
No axes, saws nor picks,
I'm bound to stay
Where you sleep all day,
Where they hung the jerk
That invented work
In the Big Rock Candy Mountains.

I'm listening to Coldplay mostly, but I'm getting Ginger(of The Wildhearts fame)'s new Album in the post tomorrow (yay, and it's the limited 1000 copy pressing) so that'll probably be hogging my stereo the next couple of weeks. I also have a Cardiacs album on special order.

I'm listening to the John Williams soundtracks from Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith. Say what you will about the movies, but their music is fantastic. My favorite piece is "Battle of the Heroes."

My favorite bands are REM and U2 (particularly Achtung Baby), so at any given time its usually one of those. My other standbys are Alanis, Everclear, INXS, Blackmoore's Night. About the hardest I will go is blink 182, and even then, Adam's Song is my favorite.

But I've recently rediscovered "I Drove All Night" by ... Cyndi Lauper.

It just gets more embarrassing from there. The Mamas and the Papas anyone?

Umm Cream right now Tales of brave Ulysses luv the lyrics...and eric is a knight ya know.

Quote

You thought the leaden winter would bring you down forever,
But you rode upon a steamer to the violence of the sun.

And the colors of the sea blind your eyes with trembling mermaids,
And you touch the distant beaches with tales of brave Ulysses:
How his naked ears were tortured by the sirens sweetly singing,
For the sparkling waves are calling you to kiss their white laced lips.

And you see a girl's brown body dancing through the turquoise,
And her footprints make you follow where the sky loves the sea.
And when your fingers find her, she drowns you in her body,
Carving deep blue ripples in the tissues of your mind.

The tiny purple fishes run laughing through your fingers,
And you want to take her with you to the hard land of the winter.

Her name is Aphrodite and she rides a crimson shell,
And you know you cannot leave her for you touched the distant sands
With tales of brave Ulysses; how his naked ears were tortured
By the sirens sweetly singing.

The tiny purple fishes run lauging through your fingers,
And you want to take her with you to the hard land of the winter

Some chick I'm going out with listens to the Beta Band, so I'm getting a quick and dirty education on them. Kind of eclectic, sound like old Yes/Kinks/Moody blues at any given time. I also busted out my turntable and listened to RED ROCKERS for the first time in years as well as soem 12" of fruity 80's era extacy-driven club music. DIN DAA DAA, DIN Do-o-o Do-o-o...
