According to Planet Half-Life, Day of Defeat: Source will be playable on September 26 for $20. Steam users can start pre-loading it now, if they pre-order it.
I can't wait! Day of Defeat for the original Half-Life provided me hours of enjoyment. Even after I migrated to more advanced World War II games, such as Return to Castle Wolfenstein and Enemy Territory, I missed the kinetic thrill of DoD. I also missed its one shot, one kill weapons, such as the Springfield.
With its phenomenal game engine, DoD:S should put all other WWII multiplayer FPS'es off the map.

I've preordered and downloaded Day of Defeat: Source over Steam. (I like Steam's setup: I can pay for games and then download them, to play them immediately or upon the game's release date, if the game isn't officially "out" yet. It's more convenient than running to the store or waiting for a shipment.)
The game will go live for D.C. players tonight. I'll post my impressions of it after I've played it a while.

Meh... So far, I'm not impressed. Maybe I was just on a crappy server, but I wouldn't call this the be-all, end-all WWII game yet.
For one thing, the graphics seem hardly better than what's in the original DoD. But then again, that could be the fault of my old computer.

The graphics are the same as CS Source's.. which, imo, are totally shitty.
I really hate it looks when you move, and especially when you get shot and fall over. It looks completely fake.
This game has no improvements over the orginal DoD. Its buggy and there are less classes then the original (i want my eight damn different classes, not five!). And laggy. All HL2 mods lag for me, which is why i hardly ever play it.
If it weren't for the fact that i had previously bought the HL2: Silver package and got DoD Source for free, I would ask for a refund.

Quote I don't like playing FPSes online.
I do. Other people are always smarter and wilier than computer opponents.
Anyway, I've recently had a chance to play Day of Defeat: Source on a better computer, and I take back the bad things I said about it. The graphics are amazing, the high-dynamic range lighting is marvelous, and the physics are realistic (more so than normal, anyway). I'm not sure this is the best WWII online game--I haven't had a chance to try out Call of Duty 2's multiplayer--but it certainly offers a fun experience.

I like FPSes because of the storylines, which probably has something to do with why I can never play through one more than twice.

I know several people that really enjoy Day Of Defeat. They will be glad to hear this.

Day of Defeat: Source Free Weekend is here. People who don't have DoD:S, but who would like to try it out, can just install Steam and play away in DoD:S this weekend.
