Posted 17 December 2005 - 07:24 PM Magazine article said: Alas, Whedon's fond memories are also tainted by Serenity's status as a franchise nonstarter; despite Universal's best marketing efforts, the film only mustered $25 million. First of all, Universal hardly expended its "best marketing efforts" for Serenity. It advertised on a few science fiction and Firefly sites; in other words, places whose readers were already going to see the movie. But Serenity didn't have a big ad campaign; a lot of people didn't know about it. Also, Serenity's actors didn't go on the major talk shows, which puzzled me. Nathan Fillion (Captain Reynolds) and Alan Tudyk (Wash) are charismatic and funny, and Morena Baccarin (Inara) is gorgeous. Audiences would have loved them, making more people see the movie. Secondly, the $25 million figure is a lie at which one could only arrive by considering American totals. But America isn't the world! I have news for the yahoos who consider American grosses exclusively: The rest of the world isn't using Monopoly money; they use real money, just as we do. And around the globe, Serenity made back its production budget. It was even the number one movie in Britain. Serenity did very well considering it had no big name actors or hyperexpensive effects. What it had was an amazing story, but that doesn't put butts in the seats. So true..the other thing was they did such a horrible timing job with the show it left the only people who did see it barely the kinda people that would support such a show or movie i am kidna upset about that deal it slike oh why help the creator of Buffy the vampire slayer, it was an awesome show that generated tons of revenue!!. ![]() ![]() "Your rights are protected by 4 boxes. Remember, though, Universal had nothing to do with the television show. That was Fox's deal. I agree, however, Fox screwed up royally, airing the episodes out of order and not showing the first episode until the end. What did they think would happen other than low ratings?
