Agreed. Moderate republicans are a dying breed, as they are getting forced out in the primaries, as was very nearly Chafee's fate. Sooner or later the GOP wil only have the extremists.
And I would posit that Chafee is the opposite of Lieberman in that regard. Chafee has principle; in the last couple years Joe has exhibited not principle, but a love of entrenched power.
